Filtering log entries

When you have logged into PLGV using your web browser, the main home page displays provides a selection criteria to filter the personal log entries for the inbound messages.    Keep in mind that while the primary filtering criterion is the date, the other criteria are "ANDed" together to filter the log entries.  Therefore only those entries matching all the selected criteria will be displayed.

Administrators have an additional criterion that allows them to select among the user available login names.

Once the filtering criteria has been selected, pressing on the PLGV home page will display all the message summary entries in your personal log.

Date criterion

Selecting the date criterion is the primary filtering method for viewing your message log entries.  This filter is active whether or not you have any other filtering criteria based on the message attributes.

For the date selection, you have several choices:

From address

This field allows you to specify the sender address to search through your personal log entries for the specified date criterion.  Any entries found matching whose sender address contains the string you specified will be listed.

To recipient (user only)

This field is only significant if the user has been set up to allow reviewing messages destined to more than one recipient email address.  The drop-down box will show any other available addresses in ascending alphabetical sorted order.  The note adjacent to this field shows how many addresses have been set up for this logged in user.

Typically this feature is used to allow the department manager, administrative assistant or departmental secretary to review quarantined messages for others.

Subject text

This field is used for searching on specific text in the Subject field of the message.

Praetor event

This field selects the specific action that was performed on the message being searched.  Available through the drop-down box, the choices are:

  • ANY

All messages

  • ACCEPTED

Messages that Praetor allowed to pass to the Inbox either because:

  1. A rule was triggered with the resulting action to accept the message, or

  2. No triggered conditions were found so the message survived all inbound rules

  • QUARANTINE

Messages with triggered conditions who rule action was to be quarantined

  • REJECTED

Messages with triggered conditions who rule action was to be rejected resulting in its deletion

User Name (administrator only)

This selection criterion allows the administrator to look at all those messages received by a specific local user.  Enter the email address for the user or any uniquely identifiable portion of the address.

Note:

You can only find mail summary entries for those users who have successfully authenticated themselves and logged into PLGV once before.  This is because until such time, PLGV will not know what email addresses are associated with their login user name.
